Position Summary
We're growing our Finance team and looking for a Management Accountant to take ownership of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting as Okendo continues to scale. Reporting to Pippa Strong, you'll be the analytical backbone behind how we plan, measure, and improve financial performance — turning numbers into insights that guide real decisions across the business.
You'll partner closely with leadership on budgets, rolling forecasts, cost and pricing analysis, and valuation work, while also helping strengthen the financial systems and controls that support our growth. This is a full-time position based in Australia, with a salary of AUD $100,000–$130,000 per annum (commensurate with experience).
How you'll create impact:
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
Own the full month-end close process — journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations — delivered on schedule
Prepare monthly management accounts including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements for executive and board review
Maintain and improve the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts
Produce variance analysis against budget and prior periods, with clear narrative commentary
Budgeting & Forecasting
Support the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts, working closely with department heads to validate assumptions
Build and maintain financial models that reflect SaaS-specific metrics: ARR, MRR, churn, CAC, LTV, and gross margin by product line
Assist in scenario modelling to support strategic planning and investment decisions
Cost Management & Analysis
Examine operating costs and income/expenditure across the business, identifying trends, inefficiencies, and savings opportunities
Monitor COGS and operational expenditure against budget, flagging material variances proactively
Support vendor and contract reviews from a financial lens
Compliance, Tax & Audit
Prepare BAS, GST, and tax workpapers; liaise with external tax advisers on compliance obligations
Ensure all financial reporting complies with statutory requirements and applicable accounting standards (AASB/IFRS)
Maintain appropriate internal controls and contribute to their continuous improvement
Systems & Process
Administer and improve accounting systems (Xero); advise on the selection and application of financial tools and integrations
Drive automation of manual processes — if you're doing something repetitive, you should be building a smarter way to do it
Partner with the broader team on system migrations, ERP evaluations, or new financial infrastructure as the company scales
Business Partnering
Act as a credible financial partner to department heads — translating numbers into business insight, not just reports
Provide financial analysis to support commercial decisions including pricing, headcount, vendor selection, and growth initiatives
Present financial summaries and analysis to senior leadership with clarity and precision
What we need from you:
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
3–6 years of post-qualification experience in a management accounting or financial reporting role
Technical Skills
Strong command of month-end close, management reporting, and reconciliation processes
Proficiency in cloud accounting platforms — Xero strongly preferred; experience with NetSuite, MYOB, or QuickBooks considered
Advanced Excel / Google Sheets; experience with BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Power BI) is an advantage
Soft Skills & Working Style
high attention to detail — you catch errors before they matter
Intellectually curious; you don't just report the number, you want to understand what drove it
Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment where priorities can shift and ambiguity is the norm
Clear, direct communicator — written and verbal — capable of presenting financial data to non-finance stakeholders
Self-directed and accountable; you don't need to be managed to deliver
Nice to Have
Prior experience in a SaaS, tech startup, or high-growth scale-up environment
Familiarity with SaaS financial metrics and subscription revenue recognition (ASC 606 / AASB 15)
Working knowledge of Australian tax obligations: GST, BAS, payroll tax, FBT
Exposure to multi-currency consolidation and international entity reporting
Familiarity with Shopify ecosystem, e-commerce, or D2C business models
Experience with financial modelling for new product or market expansion decisions
1-Month Success
Completed onboarding and is fluent in Okendo's chart of accounts, finance systems, and reporting cadence
Has met with key stakeholders across Finance, leadership, and other departments to understand how budgets and forecasts are used day-to-day
Established a regular 1:1 rhythm with Pippa Strong, with a clear roadmap of priorities for the first 90 days
Taken ownership of at least one existing monthly reporting or reconciliation task
6-Month Success
Independently owns the full budgeting and rolling forecast cycle, including variance analysis and cost review, across Okendo's international entities
Delivered at least one improvement to financial reporting templates, models, or processes that increases accuracy or saves time
Contributed a pricing, cost efficiency, or valuation analysis that directly informed a business decision
Is a go-to finance partner for at least one other department
1-Year Success
Has driven a meaningful improvement to Okendo's FP&A processes, systems, or controls as the business has scaled
Delivered a significant financial model, valuation, or business case (e.g. supporting an expansion, investment, or efficiency initiative) that shaped a strategic decision
Is recognised across the business as a trusted financial advisor, with strong working relationships across departments
Has a clear development path toward greater ownership within the Finance & Accounting team as Okendo continues to grow
